Who can enroll to attend JCEC?
To enroll, you must be at least 18 years old. If you are between 16 and 18 years of age, you may enroll with a completed Exit Form from your high school principal. Students under the age of 18 must also have the superintendent’s signature as approval when taking the official HSE tests. Additionally, eligible students must demonstrate a need for skill development, remediation, or both, as determined by the pre-TABE scores, in one or more of the following areas: English, mathematics, or reading.
Back to TopWhen is student orientation?
We hold orientation sessions over a two-day period during the first week in August. Please check the school calendar for the specific dates. Orientations begin at 9:00 a.m. or 5:00 p.m. on both days. If interested, please choose one of the dates and one of the times to attend an orientation session. Orientation takes approximately three hours, during which time you will fill out paperwork and take a TABE test. If you have any questions, please call the JCEC office at (812) 346-7830.
Back to TopWhat if I miss the orientation sessions?
If you miss the orientation at the beginning of the school year, you can still enroll anytime! Stop by the office before noon on any weekday to enroll.
Back to TopWhat are the office and testing hours?
The JCEC office is open from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. We offer TABE and ParaPro testing daily until noon.
*We close the JCEC office during the entire month of July.
What is the schedule in the event of bad weather?
JCEC follows the same schedule as the Jennings County School Corporation. On days when there is a two-hour delay, morning classes will start at 10:00 a.m., and afternoon and evening study classes begin at the regularly scheduled time. If Jennings County Schools close due to weather, JCEC will also close.
Back to TopMay students at JCEC carry a cell phone?
Yes, but we require students to turn all cell phones to vibrate (or off) while attending classes.
Back to TopWhat is the attendance policy at JCEC?
Students in the Adult Secondary Credit program must attend a minimum of 15 hours of class time every week and finish one credit every four weeks, or risk removal from the program. We may also drop students in the HSE program who miss two weeks or more.
Back to TopIs it okay to smoke or use other tobacco products on campus?
We are a smoke-free campus. We prohibit all students, parents, and employees from smoking or using other tobacco products or tobacco product substitutes in a school building, on school property, in any school-related area, or at any school-related activity.
Back to TopIs there a dress code at JCEC?
We expect all JCEC students to dress appropriately every school day. Appropriate dress does not cause an interference with schoolwork or create a classroom or school disruption. We expect Jennings County Education Center students to exercise good judgment and good taste in their choice of clothing. We expect students to dress within the bounds of decency, cleanliness, and safety. In general, we do not permit the following:
- Clothing displaying drug, alcohol, tobacco, or gang-related symbols or language
- Anything that displays vulgar or obscene language or sexual content
- Any object that could be construed as a weapon (e.g., large chains)
